PRESIDENT MESSAGE

I want to start by thanking everyone for his or her help with Sommerfest! We had a very good turnout, which is what we need to keep the doors open. Everyone’s support, whether working or indulging in food and drink, is needed to keep our club alive!

Now if you have concerns or just do not understand how the club works, please attend our Joint General Membership Meeting on August 14th at 8pm. We will make every effort to answer all your questions and hopefully make you feel at home again. This is open to all Turner and GACA members, so both boards will be on hand to make sure all misunderstandings or questions will be answered.

See you at the club

        Lawsuit Update: Mediation

We just tried to mediate our lawsuit with the three defendants. Turners/GACA started at $500,000. Their counter offers were $8,500. After several cuss words, the Mediator came back the second time and offered $40,000. We agreed to give them a final offer $312,000. Right now, we go to court in Feb. 2010 in front of a jury.  Our attorney recommended that we settle with Cooper Lighting for around $12,000. This will not affect our suit against Guyette and/or electrician.
The argument of course is damages; appraised ($400,000) or replacement costs ($800,000). We will update.

SHINING STARS UPDATE

We are looking forward to a couple of exciting months to come.  We will be back to our normal schedule beginning July 31st.  6:30-8:30 Basic Tumbling and Dance for member's children or grandchildren and from 8:30-9:30 Adult Hip Hop/Exercise for our adult members.  We are excited to welcome our newest stars; Ayuana, Naya, Brianna, Sara, Lesley, Jasmine, Jewlia, Ashlee, Aubree & Lexi.  The Stars got rave reviews from their performance at Sommerfest.  Keep shining girls/gals.

Big thanks go out to all of the parents/grandparents who take time to come out on Fridays, continuing summer classes was a tough decision but we decided we would rather continue and have some people one week and some the next than to take the summer off and have to start all over.  Just as a reminder we are looking to grow this program so any suggestions or help is appreciated.  If you know anyone with children tell them about our program, if you'd like give them my number and I can give them the details.  Remember our program fees are $10 per child/adult and we ask that they are a member which is $25 a year (due on Jan. 1st.)

I would like to get a dance committee together to make decisions for our group (costumes & performances etc.)  We would meet on Friday nights once or twice a month during the children's class if you'd like to be a part let me know.  Also we had fun in the Belton Community Days Parade, if you come across any parade opportunities please inform us so that we can get the word out about our jewel of a program.  Thank you for all of your continued support of our program and don't forget to thank our instructors and tell them how much we appreciate them every now and then.

A special thank you goes out to Garrett Giles, Jimmy Miller, Joy & Gil, Gary, Ursula, Paul and Lynn, Werner, Patte, Mel, Charlie & Tina, Christina, Marie, Michelle, Jan & Richard, Kathy & Craig & Kevin for their help with set-up, tear-down and the operation of the Children's Area at Sommerfest.

German Language Classes

Mark you calendar now for Thursday, September 10, 7:00 p.m. for our first German class gathering at my home in Olathe 14525 S. Glen Eyrie St. Please contact Jennifer McKee before September 10 913-780-6736 or jenmckee@juno.com, if you plan to participate. We will meet every Thursday from September 10 through November 19 using the Berlitz New Basic German series followed by a series of guest speakers.

If the class becomes too large to meet comfortably in my home we will consider meeting at the club in Belton. We may have a few more guest speakers in December depending on the desires of the class. There will be minimal cost to participate in the class—costs involved would be if you choose to purchase any of the materials we use and a small fee (to be determined to cover the costs of copies made for class—maybe $5-$10). Class should be over between 8:30-9.

After the holidays, plans are to start the Intermediate series, Jan.14 followed by the Advanced series finishing in April or May. These series are based on 6 units so if we can cover a unit a week we would finish by April 8 taking a week off in March for Spring Break.
